Simpson & Partners

Home 7

4.3 / 5 · independently reviewed · 10 years (enclosure) warranty

Last updated By Joe McGrath

The underdog worth knowing about. Premium British-made build, a ten-year enclosure warranty, three-phase support — all for £346 less than the Andersen A3. The caveat is brand depth: Simpson & Partners has the smallest installer network in this round-up, so confirm there's a local fitter comfortable with it before committing. If you want front-of-house design quality at a fair price and aren't precious about the badge, this is the one to look at.

What we loved

  • Plus10-year enclosure warranty — the longest on the UK market
  • PlusUK-manufactured, anodised aluminium construction
  • PlusMultiple premium finishes including Accoya wood and Cotswolds Green
  • Plus22kW three-phase option, unusual at this price
  • PlusSmart-tariff scheduling for Octopus Go, OVO Charge Anytime, EDF GoElectric
  • Plus£346 cheaper than the Andersen A3, with a longer enclosure warranty
  • PlusTethered or untethered versions

What we didn't

  • MinusSmaller UK installer network than the household names — fewer local fitters familiar with it
  • MinusThe 10-year warranty covers the enclosure, not the internal electronics (three years on those)
  • MinusFewer online reviews than the household names
  • MinusApp works, but isn't as polished as the Ohme or Tesla
  • MinusFinish options are premium, but not in the Andersen's league for sheer breadth

Figures are estimates. Your actual saving depends on how much charging you do in the off-peak window versus during the day, and on your provider's standing charge. Read the individual tariff reviews for the full picture.

The Andersen for considerably less. Simpson & Partners build to the same brief — anodised aluminium, multiple premium finishes (Accoya wood, a distinctive Cotswolds Green that suits period properties), UK-manufactured — for £346 less than the Andersen A3. The 10-year enclosure warranty is the longest on the UK market, though worth naming the scope: it covers the aluminium housing, not the internal electronics, which get the standard three-year cover.

Three-phase capability is in the box, unusual at this price — most chargers below the Andersen don't offer it. Smart-tariff scheduling covers Octopus Go, OVO Charge Anytime, and EDF GoElectric. The catch is brand awareness: Simpson & Partners don't have Ohme or myenergi's installer reach, so fewer local electricians have fitted one, and the pool of online reviews is smaller.

Best for: Buyers who want premium British-made build at a price that genuinely undercuts the Andersen, and don't mind choosing the less-famous brand.

Installation

Mid-sized at 5.5 kg, 350 × 200 × 110 mm. Anodised aluminium construction; the multiple finishes make it worth locking mounting position in with the installer, since this charger is typically specified for visible front-of-house spots. Standard 5-metre tethered cable, or an untethered version if you'd rather bring your own. The three-phase option is the quiet installation consideration: on a three-phase property (common in some rural areas, newer builds, and conversions), the Home 7 delivers 22kW — twice what most competitors in the bracket manage. No built-in RCD or SPD; both added at the consumer unit. IP54 — fine for sheltered outdoor positions. Full walkthrough in our install guide.

Tariff compatibility

Schedule-based integration through the Simpson & Partners app. Compatible with Octopus Go, OVO Charge Anytime, EDF GoElectric. Set the off-peak window; the charger draws during it. No direct supplier API, so no automatic chase of Octopus Agile half-hours — that's the Ohme Home Pro's job. Per-session energy tracking in the app is useful for keeping an eye on running costs. Full pattern in our EV tariff guide.

Price

ElementCost
Unit£649
Typical installation£400–£600
Installed, total£1,049–£1,249

£346 cheaper than the Andersen A3, with three-phase capability and three more years on the enclosure warranty. Against the broader field: more than the Tesla (£478) or Ohme (£535), close to the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro (£690), less than the Zappi GLO (£750). Eligible for the £500 OZEV grant for renters and flat owners.

Against the field

Vs Andersen A3: the Home 7 is cheaper, has the longer enclosure warranty, and adds three-phase; the Andersen has 247 finish options to the Simpson's handful and a hidden-cable trick the Simpson doesn't attempt. Against the Tesla Wall Connector: the Tesla is £171 cheaper with better app integration; the Simpson offers premium materials and three-phase. The main real caveat is brand depth: Simpson & Partners has the smallest installer network in this selection. If you can't find a local electrician who's fitted one, that's a harder problem than the charger itself.
