Skoda Elroq Home Charging UK: Cost per Charge, Time & Best Chargers

Vehicle guide

The 77 kWh Elroq 85 fills in about 10½ hours on a 7 kW wallbox and costs under £6 on an off-peak tariff. Intelligent Go works through the car, Battery Care sets 80%, and the 6 m cable is in the boot.

Vehicle-specific tariff cost

Skoda Elroq 85 charging cost at 10,000 miles.

EV electricity only, using 3.6 miles per kWh and assuming every charging kWh reaches the listed lower rate. Household electricity and the postcode-dependent standing charge sit outside these figures.

Charger picks

Skoda Elroq 85: 3 chargers we’d pick

Picked for the trade-offs that matter most when you’re buying for Skoda Elroq 85 specifically.

The hardware

The Elroq's Type 2 inlet sits on the rear right wing, so reversing onto a driveway puts the socket nearest the house; nose-in parking is where a 7.5 m cable earns its money. The on-board charger is 11 kW on every version; Skoda quotes 7.2 kW on a single-phase supply, which is what a UK 7 kW wallbox delivers. A 6 m Type 2 cable comes in the boot; the 3-pin lead is an option at about £235.

DC charging peaks at around 145 kW on the Elroq 60 and 165–175 kW on the 85, which is a motorway figure and irrelevant at home.

Elroq 85x (AWD) / vRS77 kWh11 kW175 kW344–360 miles

Usable capacities from EV Database; Skoda's own UK pages have started quoting 79 kWh net for the 85, so treat 77–79 as the range. The Elroq 50 was dropped from the UK line-up. Real-world range is about 215 miles for the 60 and 275 for the 85.

How long it takes to charge the Elroq

The figures below are for the Elroq 85, the version most people buy, with its 77kWh usable battery.

20% to 80%, the everyday window

SupplyCharge time (20–80%)Range added
3-pin socket (~2.3 kW)~20 hours~166 miles
7 kW wallbox~6 hours~166 miles
11 kW three-phase~4.2 hours~166 miles

A full charge is an overnight job on single-phase; a 20–80% top-up fits between dinner and bed. The 11 kW figure needs a three-phase supply, which most UK homes lack and few should pay to install for a car this size.

Costs

The tariff does most of the work. The Elroq returns about 3.6 mi/kWh in real-world UK driving.

Petrol assumes 40 mpg at £1.45 a litre. The electricity figures are charging only: no standing charge, and no allowance for the 5–10% lost between the wall and the battery.

The gap between the standard rate and a good EV tariff is several hundred pounds a year on typical mileage, and it costs nothing to close. The interactive savings calculator runs the numbers for your mileage; the UK EV Charging Cost Index compares every tariff per mile.

NMC battery and Battery Care mode

The Elroq uses an NMC pack and ships with Skoda's Battery Care mode, which caps the daily charge at 80% and is the right setting for everyday use. Charge to 100% for a long trip, then let it fall back. The pack behaves like the rest of the MEB family (VW ID.4, Enyaq, Cupra Born): nothing exotic, no LFP freedom to sit at full, and a sensible 80% habit keeps the warranty curve on your side.

One thing owners trip over: the charge limit lives in two places, the car and the MyŠkoda app, and they do not always agree. If the car stops at 80% when you asked for 100%, or stops at 50% with a "minimum charge" setting active, check the in-car setting first (Elroq forum thread).

Smart tariffs and the Elroq

Intelligent Octopus Go can control the car directly through the manufacturer's app, so any charger works: the charger is just a socket, and Octopus tells the car when to draw. Skoda is on Octopus's car-side list, with a caveat: the integration was withdrawn for several months in 2025 and then restored (owners' account). It works today, but if Octopus's checker says no for your car, a compatible charger gives you the same tariff without depending on Skoda's servers. OVO Charge Anytime lists Skoda too. For fixed-window tariffs, the MyŠkoda departure timer handles Octopus Go and EDF GoElectric on its own.

Choosing a charger

Every home charger on this site works with the Elroq: Type 2 is universal for UK AC charging. With the car doing the scheduling, the question is cable, price and whether you want a supplier link as a backup.

  • Tesla Wall Connector at £475: works with any Type 2 car despite the badge, and the 7.3 m tethered cable covers nose-in parking with the Elroq's rear-right socket. Four-year warranty.
  • Ohme Home Pro at £559: the belt-and-braces choice. If Skoda's Octopus link drops out again, the Ohme carries Intelligent Go on its own.
  • Easee One at £480: compact, RCD built in, and the cheapest OZEV-approved route if you rent or live in a flat.

Full head-to-heads are on the charger comparison page, and the smart-tariff chargers guide covers which units talk to which supplier.

Common questions

Can I charge an Elroq from a 3-pin plug?

Yes, with Skoda's optional 3-pin lead or any portable charger, at about 2.3 kW: roughly 8 miles an hour and well over a day for a full 77 kWh charge. A fallback, not a routine. 3-pin guide here.

Does the Elroq work with Intelligent Octopus Go?

Yes, through the MyŠkoda app, so any charger will do. The link went down for part of 2025, so a charger with its own Octopus integration is a reasonable insurance policy.

Is the 60 or the 85 better for home charging?

The 60 fills in about 8 hours on 7 kW and the 85 in about 10½; both are overnight. Choose on range and price, not charging time.

Does the Elroq have Vehicle-to-Load?

Skoda has talked about a 3.6 kW V2L function for later model years; it is not on current UK cars. No vehicle-to-grid.

Getting set up

  1. Switch to an EV tariff before anything else; the saving starts the day it goes live.
  2. Choose a charger, or compare them all.
  3. Get installation quotes: up to three local installers, no obligation.
  4. Read the installation guide so the day itself holds no surprises.
